Nature is punishing us for our greed for an aritificial life style. Dependence on oil as the staple that makes the world go round is artificial. The basis should be grains, "annad bhavantii", of which there is no limit if properly managed. And of oil there is a limit. And we are running out of oil, the demand for which, with a booming Chinese and Indian economy, is increasing. Thus prices rise, while simultaneously, the cost of farming-tractors-must also increase, thus food prices go up. And that spiral will continue until it crashes, which Prabhupada said was inevitable. Unfortunately many devotees seem to pretend that the inevitable must be in some far away time that doesn't concern them. The indications are it is coming soon. Therefore better we be prepared and not live like ostriches.
